Marine Debris
Marine debris refers to any man-made material that ends up in our oceans, seas, and other large bodies of water. This pollution can include plastics, metals, rubber, paper, textiles, and fishing gear. Marine debris can come from a variety of sources including both land-based and ocean-based activities such as littering and fishing.
In Florida, marine debris is a significant environmental issue - impacting the wildlife, marine habitats, and even human health in the state. During Florida Geo Awareness Week, it's important to highlight the sources, impacts, and solutions to marine debris to promote a cleaner coastal environment. We offer a range of engaging lesson plans and classroom projects to educated students about marine debris and inspire the to protect our marine environments.
